Who among us could not use another helper?
JOHN 14:16-18 NKJ 16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever, 17 "even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
JOHN 14:26 NKJ 26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
You and I live in a three-dimensional world. All physical objects have a certain height, width, and depth. One person can look like someone else, or behave like someone else, or even sound like someone else. But a person cannot actually be the same as another person. They are distinct individuals. God, however, lives without the limitations of a three-dimensional universe. He is spirit. And he is infinitely more complex than we are. That is why Jesus the Son can be different from the Father. And, yet the same.
The Bible clearly speaks of: God the Son, God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. But emphasizes that there is only ONE God. If we were to use math, it would not be, 1+1+1=3. It would be 1x1x1=1. God is a triune God. Thus the term: "Tri" meaning three, and "Unity" meaning one, Tri+Unity = Trinity. It is a way of acknowledging what the Bible reveals to us about God, that God is yet three "Persons" who have the same essence of deity. Some have tried to give human illustrations for the Trinity, such as H2O being water, ice and steam (all different forms, but all are H2O). Another illustration would be the sun. From it we receive light, heat and radiation. Three distinct aspects, but only one sun.
The first thing to recognize is that the Holy Spirit is a Person. And, in the Bible, He is referred to in the masculine gender. He is not just an invisible force of God, nor is He one of several gods, nor is He a god that was once a man. Scripture portrays Him with intellect, emotion and will (1 Corinthians 2:1 1; Romans 15:30). The apostle Peter listened to His words and obeyed Him (Acts 10:19-21). Christ Himself nailed the issue down best when He used the personal pronoun in referring to the Holy Spirit as a Person (John 16:13). The Holy Spirit is a “He” not an “it!” Secondly, the Holy Spirit is God. He is the third Person of the Trinity who fully, equally, and eternally shares in one common nature with the Father and Son, yet is represented in Scripture as being a distinct Person. He is called God by the Apostle Peter and displays characteristics of God: all wise, all powerful, all knowing, eternal, and holy (Acts 5:3, 4; 1 Corinthians 2:10, 11; Luke 1:35; Psalm 139:7-10; Hebrews 9:14). He does the works of God. He was involved in creation, He wrote the Bible, was involved in the conception of Christ, regenerates believers, and convicts the unsaved (Genesis 1:2; 2 Peter 1:21; Matthew 1:18; John 3:5; 16:9-11).
JOHN 16:7 NKJ 7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
JOHN 16:13 NKJ 13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
ROMANS 8:26 NKJ 26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Heavenly Father, thank you Lord for sending your Holy Spirit to be my Helper.
